Home Schooling VS Government Schooling..

I observed that many moms in the USA are more of homeschooling there children. So this thoughts pondered in my mind.
Is homeschooling better than public schools???
Is is true that the home education environment is linked to high academic achievement?
Could homeschooling provide a better education for your child??
Is it true that home education minimizes issues of child safety?

If you have any opinion on this topic please don't hesitate to comment so that we that are into Government education  will know if we are actually missing out. Thanks.

My kids go to government school, too. I have friends who homeschool their kids and the main reason is they don't agree with the government's curriculum, plus they don't want bad influences in their children's lives. Thank you for sharing this info at the Creative Bloggers' Party & Hop :) I hope you'll join us again this Sunday at 5 pm, PST.

As a former teacher, I really think your kids can get a great education at home or at school. You have more influence over your kids than the school. But your kids will miss on the social aspect of going to school. Personally I would never home school because it's not what I think is best for my family. But I know that it works for other families.

I have found the trend curious as well. My son goes to public school but I am willing to consider homeschool if I feel it would be of greater benefit to him.

I home schooled for 5 years and it definitely worked for us. Socialisation was never an issue as my daughter had friends that were home schooled and friends that were in school. She's back in school now to take her exams and is in top sets for everything. Home schooling works, yay!

I totally agree with Twingle Mommy that the success of home school or public/government school depends upon the participation of the parents. Good post!

New follower from the Finding Friends Weekend Blog Hop! Happy to have found your blog! I personally have been debating this issue, about what will be best for my child. I think public schools offer more socialization for the child, but can have negative influences in the child's life too. When the time comes I might look into Charter schools as a median between the two.

I homeschool and have made the very difficult decision to allow mine to go to private school when the new year starts. When I pulled them out of school, two of my kids were behind a grade. One caught up easily and will be in the grade they should be.

I think safety is a huge factor. I'm with my kids 24/7. No one drives me around but me or their father. There's no walking to or from a bus stop. And there's so much bad publicity for teachers and schools recently.

My children socialize through park days with other homeschooling parents and kids (we have an actual local group) we do field trips together, holiday parties, plays, concerts and so on.

I will definitely miss homeschooling, but am in a way (and this is terrible) looking forward to a little me time while my children learn that to deal with different types of people that don't have the same mind-set and goals that we do.

Anyway, Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm a little slow this week, but wanted you to know I'm now following back. Have a great weekend.

As a homeschooling mom of 12 years with two kids also in public school, I'm going to jump in with a few thoughts. Is homeschooling better than public schools? Sometimes! I think for some instances and for some children it is better. Parents can be involved in public (or government) education, but with homeschooling an even bigger commitment is necessary. Is the parent able or willing to research curriculum, make lesson plans, spend money on school supplies and curriculum as well as outside activities, and set aside 6 hours a day to teach and interact with their children? I consider homeschooling a full time job. I try not to schedule things during the days that will take me away from home. My kids are old enough to be home alone, but I need to be there to teach them and make sure they are on task with their independent work.

Is homeschooling linked to higher achievement? There are numerous studies which show that homeschoolers score better on many achievement test. Many colleges are now actively recruiting homeschoolers.

Feel free to stop by my blog on Wednesdays when a few homeschoolers join me to share the reasons why we homeschool.

Because of so many budget cuts, education is some part of the US is not meeting standards. Most moms now rely on homeschooling to fill in any gaps from classrooms.

Hi..thanks for visiting my blog. i am now following you. About the homeschooling..that's what we do. I have 3 kids and their grades are mostly A's with a few B's. I don't like the public schools (my personal opinion) and the environment. I, myself have attended both public and private and wanted more for my own children - believe homeschooling was the best option for my kids.

I think that there are plenty of wonderful public schools, and private schools, but if you're living somewhere where the public schools aren't up to par and you can't afford private, then homeschooling may be for you. I think it's important to help your kids find outlets for socialization--as a former teacher, some of my previously homeschooled students struggled making friends--but it's a personal choice that works for some in certain instances. That's why America is so great--we can all do what works for us :)

@ Becky thanks for sharing your personal views .I have gathered alot of facts about this topic.

Homeschooling wasn't even a consideration for us until we had some challenging situations at a Christian school. We are now closing our 9th year homeschooling and have no regrets with our decision. Not only are my kids always able to have 1:1 teaching, we also have the time for them to follow their dreams and hobbies. From volunteering in the community to varsity sports to community theater, we have been blesed to be able to be involved in many things.

I was home schooled for 9 of the 13 years, and went to both public and private schools for the other 4. For me, home schooling was the best solution. I learn best when I can do it at my own pace and on my own track: meeting the requirements with my own flair. I also had the opportunity, because of the flexible hours, to volunteer at hundreds of places, gathering knowledge, experience, social skills, and eventually earning my first job.

However, I will quickly say that home schooling is definitely NOT for everyone. It's not for every parent, and it's not for every child, and it's often not for every year. I don't regret the 4 years I spent in a brick & mortar school, they were appropriate and needful at the time.

In short, it is a viable option, but each family must make the decision as to which type of schooling is going to be best for each child, each year. I intend to start my daughter in school by homeschooling her, and re-evaluate each year whether she would be better off at home or in school.

By the way, I'm your newest GFC follower, thanks to Measuring Flower's Monday Mingle Blog Hop. Yes, I am the other co-host, and I'm sorry I didn't follow sooner: I've been on vacation. Ah, Pensacola sands, how I miss them. :)

Have a great week!

...oh, and as to the child safety question:

It depends. If the parent homeschooling the child is inattentive, it could be just as dangerous, or more so, just in different ways.

Something that I've noticed is that homeschoolers are often (though not always) healthier than brick & mortar students. Perhaps it's the lack of constant exposure in close quarters, perhaps home school families tend toward better hygiene or diet & exercise... I couldn't tell you for sure.

I do know that my sisters and I were hardly ever sick growing up. We each had a seasonal allergy that would last a couple days once or twice a year, but I can count on one hand how many times I was actually sick as a child. Actually, I think I've been ill more in the last 3 years than I had been my entire childhood.

Not every homeschool family is as healthy as ours was, but it seems to me that health is stronger among the homeschool families in this area.

It's something to think about. :)

I think that the right way to school our kids is different for every family. We have homeschooled our kids for Pre-K and will continue to do so through Kindergarten. I feel that we will send them to school at some point (we have great public schools in our area), but we've prayed about it and strongly feel that that's what God wants us to do in this season of our lives. :)
