John Lawrence Randall - known as Laurie - is at the grand age of 102. The determined pensioner wanted to have the two-hour operation so he could continue his passion for gardening. His grand daughter Gillian Coates, said: 'Even at 101 he was still digging up his garden and he decided on the hip replacement so he could continue with that. Wow! What an inspiration. I hope the surgery went well and he can garden to his heart's content!
Sadly, Great-Granddad passed away on March 3, 2012 of complications unrelated to the surgery. He never regretted having the surgery.
